Bathing suit

I'm thinking about buying a new swimsuit.
I was planning on waiting until the end of the season for prices to go down, but it's kind of almost the end, right? And Limericki.com is having a 40% off sale. And if I look online for coupon codes (yes, I'm that kind of girl), it could be even cheaper. Because let me tell you, I have my eyes on this baby.

Ohh.... I want a job so baaaaddd...

And every little thing you do I do adore.

I'm in a cutesy mood today.

Like, teacups and kittens and dresses and nail polish.

Actually, now that I kind of thought that through, I'm in the mood for those things all of the time.

Oh, well, I'm in an Emily Jardine mood today.

My mama found a tutorial on the lovely Pinterest today that teaches you how to make your own maxi skirts. We decided we are going to make a whole legion of maxi skirts. Because they are pretty much the comfiest thing, and what does a college student want more than comfy clothes?

Speaking of clothes, remember a few posts ago where I was talking about modesty? And then remember the next one where I was kinda like, "Oh hai I want to make a fashion blog, but hai, I hate my clothes, and they are way lame and not cuh-ute." Well, I still want to do it. I even picked out a blog name, and reserved the domain name, and even made a cute little blog title banner. Now I just have to get some cute clothes so I can write about them.
Like maxi skirts.
Woohoo!
Once my wardrobe is sufficiently adorbs, I will make all of you read this new fashion blog I speak of. Because I really do like clothes. And I really do value modesty. And I really do want to blog about it.

The end.

P.S. Speaking of kittens (remember?! we were talking about kittens!), my poor cat Harvey is feeling sick lately. He has been throwing up every few hours for the past two days, and he's doing that pitiful thing that cats sometimes do where they burrow under blankets to hide their shamefulness. It is quite a sad thing. We even tried to cheer him up by turning on the bathtub so it trickles water down for him to drink and wash his hands. He usually loves that! But he just looked at it and laid back down. Poor Harvey. If you would, keep him in your prayers. He is my little buddy, and I really want him to get better and play with me. Thank you!

If you're a kid, and you know it, raise your hand! ... One out of one!

So, yesterday I tried to start a modest fashion blog. Because I was all inspired by my previous post.

But then I realized that I hate like, half of my clothes. So I said "Forget about it!" in a Brooklyn, NY kind of accent.

Hmm.
Maybe when I have cuter clothes.
Which will be when I have more money.
Which will be when I am employed.
Which will be never unless I get some better interviewing skills.
OR apply to somewhere gross, like KFC, or Taco Bell.
...Blehh.
Meanwhile, please enjoy the latest installment of the Kid History series:

Modest is Hottest

There is a phrase commonly used in LDS culture (and by culture, I mean that the people of our church say it; I've never heard it said in actual doctrine) that I have been thinking about quite a bit today and yesterday.

I am not sure how I feel about this phrase. I started thinking about what kind of connotations "hot" or "hottest" brings, and with that, I browsed all over the modest fashion blogging world, looking for women who were dressed modestly yet fashionably.

Now, I don't know about anyone else, but when I see these women and the way they dress, groom, and carry themselves, I don't really think "hot" or "hottest".
I think "beautiful", "radiant", "daughters of God", "confident"."classy", and just good-old "fashionable".

They look like they have a brain inside their heads. They know who they are! They know their own worth! They don't care what the world's standard is. They are "doing a great work" and they "cannot come down" (Nehemiah 6:3).

That's what modesty is about. It is about portraying ourselves in a way that God has asked us to, so that we can be examples of the believers (1 Timothy 4:12).

Now, I don't completely hate the phrase "modest is hottest". It's catchy, and it's getting girls to realize that it is way better to respect yourself and your body by dressing more. But "hot" is something that is centered on the world, and trying to conform to the world's idea of attractiveness and sexual appeal. Modesty is deeper, because it's centered on our Heavenly Father, and obeying Him, and glorifying Him, and being beautiful to Him, and not giving thought to what the world thinks.

Personally, I would like a phrase like "MODEST IS BEAUTIFUL!" or "MODEST IS CLASSY!" or something along those lines. I know "MODEST IS HOTTEST" is catchy, and I'm not going to slam it down when people around me say it, because it is  having a positive impact on many women and girls, but I just don't fully agree with it exactly.
What do you think? I would find it just peachy if you had an opinion that you would like to share, and you either reblogged a post on the topic, or commented on this post. Thanks! :)

Sick day.

I went to bed last night feeling quite yucky. I almost threw up, and I couldn't sleep because of this nagging nausia feeling. Don't you hate that, when you're at the point where you wish it would just come out, but it's just lingering, and your stomach is yelling at you, and you're like, "You know what, dude? Either let it all out or just cool it!"
That's how the past 12 hours have been for me. Good times.
So, today I am taking my first sick day in a very long time. I think my last one was about this time last year. Which is kind of a record for me. I used to be sick a lot. Pink eye, pneumonia, pink eye with a side of pneumonia, ear infections, strep throat, or just plain sinus infections. I have quite a flimsy immune system. Fortunately, this year I have been able to keep myself pretty healthy. I've never even missed a day of my senior year until now. Pat me on the back. So now, since it's like my first sick day in forever, I'm kind of twitching and having an anxiety attack. I've never missed Ms. Bogg's cosmetology class. I need to help my english group finish our outline. There's a choir concert in two days. I'm missing a video in government. I'm freaking out, people, freaking ouuuuut.

So, to distract myself from the atrocity of my school absence today, lets talk about something else. Hmmm....

Oh riiiiiight! Shoes and clothes and hair. That's usually a pretty good distraction for a beauty school student. ;)
Oh! P.S. See that haircolor on the Disney Channel girl in the last picture? I totally want that haircolor. Maybe I'm bold enough to color it? Maybe... :)

fashion.

I love fashion. It allows me to play dress-up on a daily basis! Here are some of my favorite finds.

She thinks I'm psycho 'cause I like to rhyme her name with things.

Here are things I drooled over today.

This top. Is perfect.

This skirt looks so cozy. I would totally wear it to school. All the time.

This necklace rules the school. RUUUULLLLESS THE SCHHOOOOOLLLL. It has the prophecy from Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix in the little orb. "For neither can live while the other survives. AND it has a clock on the other side. AND that little hand is a nice touch. BUT it's $38. O.o

I have a thing for animals on jewelry. Particularly birds and elephants. Oh loveliness.

I HEART TOMS. Too bad they're like $65. Bleck.

These. Ones. Sparkle. Dude!

Cutest dress ever. The ruffles, the buttons, oh goodness.

I've never actually liked leopard prints, but this is really really cute.

Have I ever told you of my hopeless girliness?

It's quite pathetic, actually.

I know some of you out there are quite the tomboys, so before continuing to read this post, I suggest you get yourself some sort of trash can or paper bag or bucket or something to contain the barf you will soon expel due to the "gross girliness" of this post.

Let it begin.
1. I really love purses quite passionately. I'm not like a collector or anything because, HELLOOO, I'm not made of dang money or anything. But when I go to Tinkerbell and Downeast Basics and Target and such, I just like to smile at those babies and do a little skippidy-doo-da inside.

2. Yes, I am one of those girls that does their nails to make themselves feel better. There's something about a fresh coat of bright, happy polish that makes me feel, well, polished. I just really like looking down at my fingers and seeing something bright and lovely. It makes my day.

3. I often die in jewelry/accessory stores. Like Charming Charlie, Tinkerbell, Claires, Icing, you know the places. I love finding little trinkets and trying them on. It makes me do that little inside skippidy-doo-da I spoke of before.
4. Um, hey, DUH, I'm in beauty school. You're kind of marked at least SOMEWHAT girly when you make the decision to join that thing. And if that weren't enough, my fellow classmates laugh at me because I do that skippidy-doo-da thing in class, when something I do ends up looking good.
5. Well we might as well mention the "skippidy-doo-da" thing. It's kind of like a spasm and a skip and a hop all at the same time. Sometimes followed by a "SQUEEE!!" But don't worry. I DO NOT "SQUEEE". That's too much for me. The skippidy-doo-da move allows me to quietly be giddy and giggly and think cutesy thoughts, while not being obnoxious. Hooray.
{p.s. definitely don't have a picture depicting "skippidy-doo-da"}

6. I love chick flicks. Too bad I live in a house with two boys and a little elfish girl. They don't know the meaning of chick flick. I get dirty looks if I even TRY to snuggle up to "A Walk to Remember", "Penelope", or even "A Little Princess". And if any kissing occurs?? Eyeballs start getting scraped out of skulls. So long story short, that's why I love girls nights and princess powwows and such. Because where else am I going to get my "awww" movies??
7. People. My bedroom is pink. Like, ballerina pink. The kind that many get sick off of. I love it. It makes me feel Emily-ish.
8. I freaking love shopping. I know I sound stupid and gross. But I really do. I think part of it is my slight competitive streak, which makes me feel victorious when I find something lovely for dirt cheap when I know that people have paid some full expensive price for the same thing. My favorite stores {right now}? Rue21, Ross, Savers, DownEast Basics, Tinkerbell, Romy, and Forever21. Bahh. Those places make me skippidy-doo-da.
9. I wish I could still be a ballerina. If I had time, I totally would. It's quite good for you. It makes your muscles all rock-hard, and your posture super duper great. And, you know,
you feel like a fairy. :)
10. Hair bows and hair clips and headbands oh my! I love them, oh yes I do. And I have a whole dang lot of them, too. An entire over-the-door hanger just FULL of them. Bliss.

You are now convinced that Emily Jardine is a loonie girl. Very nice.

P.S. By the way, I still love Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, wrestling with dogs, chasing ducks, hiking, getting mud between my toes, etc. I'm not a total priss. Goodness me.
